I’m encouraging people across Clwyd North to have their say on the proposed MaresConnect electricity interconnector, which would create a new link between the electricity grids of Ireland and Wales.
There are a number of public consultation events coming up, and I’d encourage anyone who may be affected or interested to go along, find out more and share their views.
The project, being developed by MaresConnect, is a proposed 750MW subsea and underground electricity interconnector designed to connect the Irish and British electricity transmission networks. In Wales, this is likely to include a converter station, near to the existing Bodelwyddan substation; a cable landfall west of Abergele; and underground cables within the road network and private land.
The developer has identified a preferred landfall location near Abergele and is currently considering three potential converter station sites. Three potential onshore cable routes also remain under consideration. However, the developer has stressed that these routes are still at an early stage and remain subject to change as further assessments and consultation take place.
I hope residents will take the opportunity to attend consultation events to learn more about the proposals, view project information, ask questions, and share their views directly with the project team. It’s an important opportunity to understand what is being proposed and make sure local views are heard as the project develops.
