Gill German MP has warmly welcomed the UK Government’s announcement of a major package of support for young people in Wales, including 12 new Youth Hubs and additional devolved employment funding.
The announcement, made by the Department for Work and Pensions, will see expanded support for 16–24-year-olds through a network of Youth Hubs bringing together jobcentre services, training providers, local authorities and employers under one roof.
Boost for young people in Clwyd North
Responding to the news, Gill German MP said:
“This is a hugely positive step forward for young people across Clwyd North. Too many young people feel locked out of opportunity – this investment is about opening doors.”
“These new Youth Hubs in Conwy and Denbighshire will give young people access not just to jobs, but to training, skills, mental health support and real pathways into careers.”
Youth Hubs are designed to provide a single, accessible place where young people can get tailored support, including careers advice, training opportunities and direct links to employers offering jobs and apprenticeships.
Real impact for local communities
The Government has confirmed that new hubs will be created across Wales as part of a wider rollout across Great Britain. Gill German highlighted the importance of this investment for communities across Clwyd North:
“In towns and coastal communities across Clwyd North, young people often face real barriers to work – whether that’s access to training, transport or opportunities locally.”
“By bringing services together in one place, Youth Hubs will make it easier for young people in Conwy and Denbighshire to get the support they need to succeed.”
Putting decisions closer to communities
Alongside the new hubs, the Government has also announced plans to devolve employment support funding to the Welsh Government, building on an initial £20 million already provided.
This will allow programmes to be designed locally, reflecting the specific needs of communities across Wales so they are tailored to most effectively target communities.
Tackling youth unemployment and building futures
The announcement forms part of a wider effort to ensure every young person has access to support through a national Youth Guarantee, amid rising concern about young people not in education, employment or training.
Gill German concluded:
“This is about giving every young person in Clwyd North the chance to build a future.”
“I will continue working to ensure our constituency benefits fully from this investment and that no young person is left behind.”
